UTS Engineering and IT Domestic PhD Scholarship Opportunities

Scholarships are currently available, on both a competitive and project-specific basis, for the undertaking of full-time PhD research in key research areas within the Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) at the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS).

Our PhD program offers at least three years of funding with a range of opportunities for undertaking professional development alongside a cutting-edge research project working with our world class researchers and research teams. One of our recent highlights has been the opening of a new research dedicated facility, the ‘Tech Lab,’ devoted to strengthening academic-industrial projects designed to increase the impact of our research.

Scholarships are tax-free and valued at $27,082 pa (indexed annually) for 3 years.

Top-up scholarships, up to a maximum value of $12,000pa (for 3 years), may also be allocated to exceptional candidates awarded competitive scholarships.

PhD – Deep Tech Entrepreneurial Pathway:
The Faculty is also offering a limited number of scholarships for local students to undertake a PhD with a Deep Tech Entrepreneurial focus. This is an exclusive pathway for domestic students that are looking for an entrepreneurial career path.

In addition to the standard entry criteria, applications will be assessed on the basis of

(a) a proposal in an area of Deep Tech Innovation (aligned to one of the Faculty’s research strengths)

(b) technical capabilities and/or entrepreneurial experience and

(c) a pitch-style interview.

Aside from the annual stipend rate, successful applicants into the Deep Tech Entrepreneurial pathway will be allocated $20k towards consumables for their research project and will be eligible for a top-up scholarship, as well as mentoring from an experienced entrepreneur.
