Wireless Electro Stimulation of 3D Bioprinted Neural Tissues
The project will involve the integration of a novel wireless electro simulation (e-stim) system to 3D bioprinted neural tissues. Initially, optimisation of the technique to be employed for e-stim will be necessary, followed by integration to 3D tissue fabrication, and requisite assayology for characterising e-stim effects on tissues and constituent cells.
The project is significant because unlike conventional approaches to tissue modelling and e-stim, functional 3D printed neural tissues more accurately represent live tissues of the human brain with component cell phenotypes that resemble neural cells in vivo, and wireless e-stim holds great promise for non-invasive neurostimulation and neuroregeneration.
The essential selection criteria are as follows:
- First or upper second class Honours degree or Master degree (or equivalent) in Neuroscience or related field with skills in all or some of: molecular and cell biology, neural or pluripotent stem cell biology, tissue engineering, biomaterials science, animal surgery, behavioural testing, tissue dissection, immuno-histochemistry/-cytochemistry, microscopy, stereology, and electrophysiology.
- A strong interest in interdisciplinary research.
- Excellent communication (English) and interpersonal skills, with the former ideally demonstrated by high quality journal and conference publications.
- Excellent team player.
