Atlas Based Segmentation for Radiotherapy Clinical Trials

It is well acknowledged that the 'weakest link' in radiotherapy is defining radiotherapy treatment volumes and regions to be avoided (contouring). There is no current methodology for assessing and improving contouring consistency except in clinical trials where manual review of contours and associated radiation dose distributions occurs in a limited fashion. QA is required for individual clinical trial patients to ensure the best outcome as well as ensuring correct trial results. Manual testing is time consuming, resource intensive, expensive and for advanced treatments unachievable in a timely fashion. We will assess a novel approach for centralised automated trial QA. Interested candidates with a background in physics, mathematics, computer science/engineering, image processing, medical physics or related industry are encouraged to apply.
