Mental Health and Well-being in Rural and Regional Communities Scholarship

A three year PhD Scholarship (AUD $29,092 tax exempt and indexed yearly) is available in the School of Rural Medicine at the University of New England (UNE). Funded by the Collaborative Research Network (CRN) on Mental Health and Well-being in Rural and Regional Communities, the candidate will undertake research focusing on one of the following areas:

Building mental health workforce capacity in rural and regional communities.
Impact of physical health and/or ageing on wellbeing of people with mental illness living in rural and regional communities.

The CRN on Mental Health and Well-being in Rural and Regional Communities is a partnership between UNE (School of Rural Medicine and the School of Behavioural, Cognitive and Social Sciences), LaTrobe University, University of Newcastle, University of Sydney, University of New South Wales, and the Hunter New England Local Health District.

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student with an interest in mental health and wellbeing and rural communities. The candidate may be required to undertake fieldwork in rural and remote communities.

Eligibility: The following eligibility criteria apply to this scholarship:

  • The scholarship is open to Australian (domestic) candidates
  • The PhD must be undertaken on a full-time basis
  • Meet UNE's admission requirements for a PhD program
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong research and analytical skills
