Quantum Nanomechanics, quantum biophysics, precision sensing
Exciting opportunities to undertake PhD projects are available for
highly motivated students in the Bowen Group at The University of
Our research spans from the very fundamental, e.g. how does quantum physics transition into our everyday world at large scales?, to applied, e.g. developing next generation sensors for medical diagnostics and navigation.
The group works in close partnership with industry and uses state-of-the-art facilities for nanofabrication, nanoanalysis, precision optical measurement and deep cryogenic refrigeration available in-house or on campus at UQ.
The position is available immediately, but flexible depending on the situation of the appointee. The ideal candidate will have a strong undergraduate academic track record, and experience in an optics or photonics research laboratory, and will be expected to apply for a scholarship to cover stipend and fees.
Selected prospective students will receive assistance to apply for either the APA or for international students, an International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS).
The current APA scholarship rate is AUD $26,682.00 per annum (indexed annually) tax-free for three years with a possible six month extension in approved circumstances.
