Scholarship is available for one PhD candidate to contribute to the research of advanced polymer composites manufacturing at Centre for Future Materials. The global challenge to reduce CO2 emission presents greater opportunities in advanced composites manufacturing. The PhD projects underpin the manufacturing technologies of polymer fibre composites in the era of Industry 4.0
The role: The proposed PhD project aims to develop a novel adaptive automated manufacturing process, in the era of Industry 4.0. The project will integrate the smart interface pressure sensors and the advanced computing, i.e. the process modelling, stochastic methods, and optimisation algorithms. Interfacing with a lab scale mould tool, the study will establish the cyber-physical framework. It will enable the investigation of the stochastic nature and the optimisation of liquid composite moulding. The project will focus on the two manufacturing stages on the fly, including the forming and the resin infusion. The study will benchmark the proposed process with the aerospace standards, to achieve the minimum process-induced defect. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work on a cutting edge area and within a world-class research team. The study will be conducted at Centre for Future Materials at University of Southern Queensland.
The person: Applicants must have one of the following: a Bachelor degree with First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Division A) or equivalent, or a Masters degree (with a significant research component), or other qualifications and/or experiences equivalent to a minimum Second Class Honours (Division A), as deemed appropriate by the respective faculty. English Language Requirements: All students are required to satisfy the applicable English language requirements. This program requires a minimum of IELTS 6.5 or equivalent. If you do not meet the English language requirements you may apply to study a University-approved English language program. The scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents. International students with a Master degree from a reputable university are also encouraged to apply.
