Next generation proteomics approach to study heat stress in cattle
Next generation proteomics has significantly reduced the cost of experiments and enabled generating highly reproducible computerized fingerprints (SWATH-MS scans) of virtually unlimited number of protein samples corresponding to various stimuli. In these computerized fingerprints every protein has been quantified without compromising data quality and SWATH-MS data can be used for retrospective analysis.
In CARF Proteomics and Small Molecule Mass Spectrometry laboratory we have established a walk-up SWATH-MS - based quantitative proteomics service that covers multiple aspects of next generation proteomics analysis. We have already applied the above pipeline to sheep inflammation study and are also digitally fingerprinting the changes in the hundreds of cattle plasma samples corresponding to various pain conditions.
We are now seeking for a highly motivated individual with interest in mass spectrometry and proteomics to join our group in an attempt to investigate heat stress biomarkers in cattle. The student will work closely with collaborators from Data61 and CSIRO. An ideal candidate should have a strong interest in bioinformatics because handling 'big data' and developing bioinformatics tools/piepelines will be a significant component of the project.
